Cheerio incident

Cheerios are not meant to go in the nose! You would think this is common sense ... Ryan missed out on that memo :). This morning we were having breakfast and Ryan starts screaming ... "there's a cheerio in my nose, there's a cheerio in my nose" and he is crying at the same time. Jeremy and I look at each other wondering if we just heard what we heard? Yes, we heard that he had a cheerio in his nose.

We look up the nose and sure enough there is a cheerio in his nose. When asked why he put a cheerio up his nose he said "Pace told me to last night so I did it this morning." Gotta love peer, or in this case brother pressure!

I called the pediatrician's office since our pediatrician has saturday hours. They told us to take him to the Childrens Hospital ER since at this point it could no longer be seen. I'm thinking ... cheerios get soggy and dissolve won't it just go away? But they said to go so off we go.

We get there and I give him his name all the while I'm praying that we don't get sick germs while we are there since we are getting ready for a very important trip and I don't want anyone sick! We sit down and I prayed that God would allow this cheerio to come out on it's own and that we would not need to be seen. I didn't want him going through an invasive procedure. They called his name so we went back. The nurse asked me to take his jacket off so they could weigh him and as I am taking off his jacket he tells me that "the cheerio just went down my throat". So, I looked at the nurse and said "guess we can go home then." She looked at me like I was CRAZY - certifiable really! He was a different child so I knew it was gone because he was acting normal again and said he could breathe! Thank you Jesus for answering my prayer!!!

The moral of our story ... teach your children to not put cheerios up their nose! Our boys both NOW know that Cheerios go only in their mouth. Ryan learned it the hard way!

While I'm Waiting

Heard this song in a movie and fell in love with it ... It's called While I'm Waiting By John Waller

I'm waiting
I'm waiting on You, Lord
And I am hopeful
I'm waiting on You, Lord
Though it is painful
But patiently, I will wait

I will move ahead, bold and confident
Taking every step in obedience

While I'm waiting
I will serve You
While I'm waiting
I will worship
While I'm waiting
I will not faint
I'll be running the race
Even while I wait

I'm waiting
I'm waiting on You, Lord
And I am peaceful
I'm waiting on You, Lord
Though it's not easy
But faithfully, I will wait
Yes, I will wait

I will serve You while I'm waiting
I will worship while I'm waiting
I will serve You while I'm waiting
I will worship while I'm waiting
I will serve you while I'm waiting
I will worship while I'm waiting on You, Lord

Be Still

I am always jotting down thoughts, a line or two from a book I am reading, something our pastor preached on, something that was said at MomSense, or maybe just something that caught my eye. I write them in my journal or my Bible.

The other day I ran across one of those thoughts that I wrote down . On one whole page of my journal I had written just the words “Be still and know that I am God…” Psalm 46:10a in the center of the page. No matter what may be happening at this moment, God is God and He is in control. I don’t begin to think that I can understand the why things happen question. What I do know is that “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” (Psalm 46:1) He has it all under control. I can rest in that knowledge.

Today I wrote out Psalm 46:10 written like this:

Be still and know that I am God.

Be still and know that I am.

Be still and know.

Be still.

Be.

So as I go through today I am reminding myself that I know God is with me. He is in control. He knows what is ahead and He will help. He sees the whole picture. He knows how it will all fit together.

I can be still, not stressed, anxious, worried, or even in a hurry (the hurry one is huge for me). Instead, I will allow myself to be still and rest in the knowledge that He is God. What freedom there is when I stop trying to figure things out. Be still and know!!

How about you?? What verse are you chewing on lately?

2 Good nights!

Tough love has worked! For the past two nights Pace has been able to sleep in his own bed! We are so excited. When he wakes up in the morning he is so excited with himself and will ask if I am very, very, very, very happy! It is so sweet! We decided a couple nights ago that he was just doing all this to seek attention from daddy. So, Jeremy told him he could have as many hugs and kisses before the lights went out, that he wanted. Once the lights went out that was it. If he decided to yell for him he would go in the guest room in the pack-n-play. So, we would move him without speaking to him and then he would yell and scream. Finally he would put himself to sleep after Jeremy went in to cover him up ... usually after he had screamed for 30 minutes or so. Thankfully these episodes did not wake up Kennedy! He is super proud of himself and so are we. I sure hope this continues!

I took the boys to the dentist today and I'm not sure what happened but as Ryan was getting his teeth tickled he burst into tears and remained that way for the rest of the time there. Pace did wonderful and was wooed by the prize box that awaited them when their time was done. Thankfully neither one had any cavities!

He goes home!

Just in case you are wondering .... In the story of the prodigal son ... he does go home. He doesn't stay in the pig pen as my child would have had me to believe last week! So thankful that we made it to church today because he might never have believed me or the Bible!

UGH!!!

Bedtime has always been an EASY time at our house. I know we are blessed to not have any issues when it comes to putting our kids to bed. However, in the last month or so it has become a STRUGGLE to put Pace to bed. He wants Jeremy, then he wants me, then he no longer wants me and wants Jeremy, then he no longer wants Jeremy and wants me ... get the picture? Jeremy is and has been the one to put them to bed. He will change them, brush their teeth, read them a story, pray with them and then tuck them in. Everything is fine until prayers are over and it is time to be tucked in. Y'all it has become a time we dread!!! He cries and pitches a fit. I don't want to blame everything on Kennedy nor do I want to blame it on being 2. Ryan never did this when he turned 2 nor did he do this when Pace arrived.

We are both at a place where we do not know what to do with him. It is exhausting not to mention we both want to pull our hair out b/c we cant seem to solve this situation. We are really at our wits end and just are not sure what to do. If any of you have any suggestions we gladly welcome them. Since we have never really battled bedtime drama we are clueless as to what to do. The worst we have battled have been the two boys talking since they are in the same room. That issue was over so quickly but now this new issue unfolds and it is affecting everyone with the fit he is throwing.

The things they say #192

Today we were having breakfast and Ryan told me he wanted another baby right now. I was stunned because he has been saying lately that our family was "full". I explained to him that I couldn't go get a baby right now and that there was NO baby in mommy's tummy. He said "well, mom, just grow one." He said he wanted another baby girl and wanted to name her "the Cheerio guy". When I told him we really couldn't name a baby girl "the Cheerio guy" he said "ok, then we will name her pluto, is that a girl name?" ... then it was "Kyle", then it was "ok we will just name our new baby Kennedy 2. Mom, I'm going to go pray right now for Kennedy 2 and God will answer because he gave me this Kennedy when I prayed for her!"

By the way there are no plans for another baby!

Kster!

The Kster's personality is really starting to blossom! She is so funny around her brothers and they respond to her so differently. She will pull and tug on anything Ryan has on or even his hair and he just smiles and lets her. Pace will on the other hand try to get her to stop. He can be a little rough with her so we have to keep a very close eye on him when she's near him.

She has been eating more since we have started back her zantac ... she still spits but she is eating more. It's funny to see how she eats. She will wait on us to push the spoon into her mouth and then she will suck the food off of the spoon. The boys were both like little birds who couldn't get enough. They opened wide, she does not.

I ordered her Easter dress yesterday, or at least what I think will be her easter dress. Then I can try to coordinate the boys colors around hers. Hopefully, it will work out. I couldn't really tell from the picture. I have to tell you that I never thought I'd be the smocked dress kind of mom ... but I so am! I love them on her. She' so skinny that dresses are really the only things that fit her well and I've become a sucker for smocked clothing! Thankfully, I've been able to find some good finds (new even) on Ebay!

Well, I have to go nurse a headache! Hope you all are having an awesome day!

Separated Twins?

Could they be twins .... only separated by 27 months! :)

6 month checkup

Today we took Kennedy in for her 6 month check up! She is doing well considering her bowel issues. Hopefully that will not linger much longer :) She's really going to love me one day when she's old enough to read back through the blog book I'll make ... I'm sure I'll get a "MOM!" when she knows I've talked as much as we have about her issues :)

She was a champ today. She got 3 shots and as luck would have it she fell asleep right before they got to the shot part. Woke her right up but she quickly calmed down.

She's is looking like she might be on the petite side. I hope that she continues to have her daddy's metabolism!

She is in the 30% for height as crazy as that seems considering her daddy is 6' 4"! She was in the 25% at 14 pounds 9 ounces.

We are really trying to get her to eat. She's not so fond of oatmeal and we just started trying veggies. She likes peas but still will not eat very much. I wouldn't either if my brothers stood around me and said "yucky" as I was eating! She's still spiting up all the time. We were trying to wean her off her reflux meds but her doctor told us to put her back on it ... could be the reason she's not eating for us ... due to a burning throat. We will see.

I'll put her stats up against the boys ... this is more for me than anyone else. One day I'll have this ole blog printed into a book (thanks Nicole) and I'll be able to remember the tiny peanuts that they all were :)

Ryan
Weight:16 pounds 8 ounces 50%
Height: 28" 90%
Head: 16 3/4" - 10%

Pace
Weight: 16 Pounds 50%
Height: 27 1/4" - 70%
Head: 16 1/2" - 10%

Kennedy
Weight: 14 pounds 9 ounces - 25%
Height: 25 1/2" - 30%
Head: 16 1/2 - 30 %

Luke 15

Last night Luke 15 & the story of the prodigal son really became a "hot" topic in our home. We have been going to church on Saturday nights. It just works for our family. The first few times that we have gone it felt weird to not go on Sunday but I digress ... back to the story. Ryan loves to tell us what he learned and last night he was telling us the story of the prodigal son. Only his story ended early. His story ended with the son staying in the pig pen.

We tried very hard on the way home to explain to him how the son realizes the sin in his life and went home to his father. But he would have nothing to do with our version of the story. Really made me wonder where they had stopped the story at church because he is really good to listen and can recount a story very well. When we got home you can bet what story we read before bedtime. We read it out of the Veggie Tales Bible and that wasn't good enough and that was wrong. So I got my Bible and we read it out of it. THAT was wrong too.

The night just went down hill from the moment in the car when he told us this half story until something changed. Ryan would tell me often that I was not right and the Bible was not right and the story ended with this guy in the pig pen.

After we settled this dispute, the boys went to bed. I got to thinking though ... how many times does our story end in the pig pen? How often do we stay in the pig pen and not get up and go ask for forgiveness? How often do we miss the celebration and party? The hug and the kiss from our father because we wallow around in the mud and the mire?

I'm glad that Ryan's story is not correct. I'm glad the story doesn't end where he thinks it does. I'm glad that we can get up and get out of our pit and receive forgiveness and find a restored relationship! I just hope that one day he allow us to tell the whole story and that he will know that the story doesn't end in the pit!

6 Months = 1/2 a year!

Where does the time go? How is it that she is already 6 months old. I know we all know this but 6 months = a half of a year! How is that possible that she has been on the outside for 6 whole months?

When you are waiting on them to arrive it seems like it takes FOREVER for them to get here. The hours, days, weeks and months drag on. And someone will tell you that to take in each and every moment because before you know it they will be grown. I didn't believe that before Ryan was born but I sure do believe that now! I couldn't fathom then how fast it could possibly go but now it seems like such a flash!

Sweet girl you have blessed our lives in ways I could have never dreamed possible! You are such a joy - even though you can't make it through one single service without having to have your number flashed for momma to come save you. You have such a contagious smile! You are learning so much lately though you still aren't a fan of food, however, we are diligently working on that one. You are the smallest peanut of the 3 ... guess it's good that you are a girl! I prayed hard that you would get daddy's metabolism and not mine :)

You are loved and adored by your brothers. Most of the time you love it but sometimes their love can be a bit smothering. They can make you giggle like no one else can. I love to see the delight on your face when you see them for the first time in the morning or when we pick them up from school! The bond between the 3 of you is already so strong and it makes this momma's heart swell with pride!

We all love you sweet girl ... Happy 1/2 birthday!

Beautiful!

It has been absolutely gorgeous outside lately! The boys have had such a blast playing in the sunshine. It has been good for their soul ... and mine as well! I love this weather!

So how is the weather in your neighborhood?

My favorite subjects ...

Pick it up!

Jeremy and I have been in the habit of always picking up coins wherever we find them. We once heard someone say that why would they pass over it when each coin had the words "In God We Trust" inscribed on it? So we pick it up anytime we find one and we put it in a large cup. Today we wrapped each one of those coins along with any other change we had. And $47 dollars later we went to the bank! Doesn't seem lot ... but it's a date night meal for us!

So next time you see a penny ... Pick it up ... you never know when it will come in handy!

Right now ...

Right now my kids are all 3 napping. Such a wonderful couple of hours in my home. I can hear Ryan over the monitor and he is praying and singing! I just love it. He is singing Awesome God and praying/talking to God. Tears are streaming down my face as I listen to my child talk to his creator in the way he knows how! I just love it!

An adventure in carpool

Today was an adventure when it came time to pick up the boys at school. I got there a little early so I climbed in the back of the van and held Kennedy. We played in the back for a few minutes until time for the boys to come out. The boys are coming out so I jump in the front seat and try to start the van ... click, click, click is what I hear ... I'm first in line mind you! It was dead, dead, dead! The multi talented teachers that are at my sons school came to the rescue and they pushed our van to the side while a sweet guy from the church staff jumped me off.

I was so embarrassed! I think we must need a new battery!
